The role

This position is a joint NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN), Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) and Western Primary Health Network (WPHDN) appointment. The role relates to the Western NSW component of the Collaborative Care Program, a joint initiative to develop community-centred approaches to improving access to primary care for remote and rural communities.

The Senior Project Officer position is a full-time, fixed term role till 30 June 2022. This role is to be based within the WNSWLHD area footprint and will report to the partnership of WNSWLHD, WPHDN and RDN.

The Senior Project Officer manages and coordinates the implementation and further development of three ‘Collaborative Care’ projects in the Western NSW region to achieve project outcomes and support the achievement of over-arching Collaborative Care Program objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • In line with the over-arching Collaborative Care Program and the established project management methodology, manage and oversee all aspects of project planning, development and implementation. This includes developing project plans, coordinating resources, managing budgets, meeting reporting requirements, and supporting project-related activities, to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to quality standards and within agreed scope.
  • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to engage stakeholders and ensure project deliverables are met.
  • Monitor and evaluate all aspects of project implementation, including risk and contingency management, benefits realisation, project impact and quality measures, to identify and address issues, assess project progress and effectiveness, and achieve project outcomes.
  • For each project location, engage and manage project working groups comprising members from partner organisations, including community, to successfully deliver all key project/s milestones and outcomes while ensuring compliance with governance and quality requirements.
  • Support research to develop evidence-based project planning and decision making and enable the formulation of recommendations from project learnings.
  • Provide advice and information to stakeholders on project development and delivery, including emerging project issues.

 Key challenges

  • Managing consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, within agreed priorities, timelines, given their varying expectations, viewpoints and interests.
  • Achieving project deadlines and milestones to the required standards and within budget, given the need to simultaneously coordinate and deliver multiple projects which are often complex and interconnected.

 Essential requirements

  • Demonstrated significant project coordination experience, organisational and time management skills with a track-record of taking initiative and meeting project objectives on time and with limited supervision.
  • Ability to effectively use writing skills and technology for electronic communication, web based research, documentation of plans, preparation of reports and promotional material.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to understand their needs and effectively motivate engagement with potential solutions.
  • Current license to drive in NSW with the ability to drive regularly for work purposes, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Ideally applicants will be located in the local region, however, applicants who live further afield and can travel will also be considered. Frequency of travel is yet to be confirmed.
